MINI John Cooper Works - South African Details

We have confirmed that both the Coupe and Clubman iterations of the John Cooper Works MINI will be available in South Africa.

Pricing is still sketchy at this point and we have no confirmed details.

What we do have, is a South African information brochure of the R56 iteration of the MINI John Cooper Works:

R56 MINI John Cooper Works Product Information

The Coupe is set for release late third quarter 2008.

A couple of interesting things to note:

  1. The 85mm diameter exhaust tips will not feature John Cooper Works logos
  2. Front and rear brakes will have red painted calipers
  3. While the JCW Aero Kit is shown in the brochure, according to our source, it cannot be fitted at Plant Oxford. Investigations are underway to find a way to possibly supply the car with the Aero Kit as standard
  4. South Africa will be getting the JCW Clubman, but the date has not been finalised due to the JCW aerokit not being available until the first quarter of 2009.

Point 4 is of particular interest, as it seems MINI South Africa is following the UK with the delay of the JCW Clubman due to Aero Kit unavailability. This is not necessarily bad news, as it seems to indicate that these countries want to supply the JCW cars with the JCW Aero Kits factory installed.

More info as we get it.

No official pricing - expect between R280k and R300k

You're probably going to have to budget extra for the JCW suspension, or at least the Sport Suspension.

I'll let you know when the first car is available locally for inspection / test driving - expect late July mid August.

According to the local product manager the base price has not been finalised, this is pending investigations into whether the JCW Aero Kit will be included and factory fitted.

Where did you get your info re the colours? My information is that all the usual Cooper S colours will be available.

Sorry for the late response.

My Rosslyn contact shared the info with me ;)

He says it is confirmed and the colours are also confirmed.

My other contact in the ad business was at the TV recording at Nelson Mandela bridge, says the car is hot.

Well i am sure MINI will release some info sooner than later...
